Q&A with Dina Silver, author of One Pink Line

Author: Dina Silver
Goodreads Rating: 4.27
My Rating: 4/5 Stars
Pages: 260

Because this post is a special one, its going to go a little differently than before. For this post, the wonderful Dina Silver has agreed not only to a question and answer but also to giveaway a copy of One Pink Line. I personally won a copy of One Pink Line and that was how I found this book (that I loved) and author(who I also love). I have a shorter review of the book posted here rather than the usual longer post as well as the synopses.

Goodreads Synopses:

Can the love of a lifetime be forever changed by one pink line? Dina Silver’s tender, absorbing novel, One Pink Line, is the warmhearted, wry story of love, loss and family, as seen through the prism of one singular, spirited young couple who find themselves in a predicament that changes the course of their lives, and those closest to them. With heart, humor and compassion, this debut work of women’s fiction is certain to stir anyone who relishes a good laugh, can stand a good cry, and, above all believes in the redemptive power of love.

My Review:

I really enjoyed this book because it has all the best things in Chicklit; young romance, babies, children, pregnancy, girlfriends and mothers. I had few complaints about the book, and my only one was too much detail about insignificant characters, other then that it was fun and flirty, and a lot of fun as you started to connect the dots as the story of Grace and the story of Sydney unfolds. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun girly story. (Because with that much pink on the cover you can't get any more girly.)

Q&A with Dina Silver after the jump!

What inspired One Pink Line?

One Pink Line was inspired by a girlfriend of mine and her life experiences. She found herself unexpectedly pregnant at a young age, just as she was graduating college, and was faced with many difficult decisions. After hearing everything she went through, I found that at the core of her experience was a really wonderful love story…and I just had to write about it.

How did she feel about the book being written? How did her family feel?
She was really touched. I asked her permission immediately when I heard her story, because it struck me right away as something that would be rewarding to write about. She read a few early drafts and was really pleased even early on in the process. The book is still fiction, so I think her family is able to enjoy it, yet rest assured that I did take liberties in making the story my own.

How did you come to the decision to write One Pink Line?
I just knew right away that this would make an a great novel.

Were there any experiences or details from your own life that made it into your books?
Absolutely! Many of the scenes in the book are lifted from my own high school and college experiences.

What was your favorite scene in One Pink Line?
Great question. I love all childbirth scenes from the moment she goes into labor until she has the baby. Again, another area where my own experiences are woven into the story.

Was their any scene that was particularly hard to write? One that you really enjoyed writing?
SPOILER (HIGHLIGHT TO READ)I think the scene where she tells Kevin that she’s pregnant with his child was equally difficult and fun to write.(SPOILER)

What is your next book about?
My next book, Kat Fight, is a true romantic comedy (loosely!) based on how I met my husband.

What is your favorite book?
            Pride & Prejudice

Who is your favorite author?
            Jane Austen

Who do you think has had the biggest influence on your writing?
That’s a great question, but it’s hard to say. Looking back, my parents were (and still are) huge readers. Like a book a day, readers. So their love of books must have rubbed off on me. I also had a high school English teacher who really complimented my writing early on, and encouraged me to stick with it.

Have you always wanted to be an author?
            I’ve always wanted to write.

What would you say is your biggest achievement?
Finally seeing my words in print, and holding a book in my hand with my name on the cover was pretty dang awesome.

What is your writing style?
I’m very much a freestyle writer. I don’t write plot outlines or character studies. I’ve had the most success with simply sitting in front of my computer and letting it all hang out.

What do you do when you get writers block?
Walk away. I can always find something else to do. I am not the type of writer who commits to a certain word count per day. If I have nothing to say, then I walk away.

What genre of books do you find yourself drawn to?
I like contemporary fiction. My tastes are ALL OVER the board. Anything from suspense to chick lit, to murder mystery to humor.

What was it like trying to get published?
It was excruciatingly tiresome. The wait to find a traditional publisher is such a waste of time.
Are there any tips you have for aspiring authors?
