When your world blows apart, what will you hold onto?
TAG is a medical slave, doomed to spend his life healing his master's injured gladiators. But his warrior's heart yearns to fight in the gladiator ring himself and earn enough money to win his freedom.
LUCIA is the daughter of Tag's owner, doomed by her father's greed to marry a much older Roman man. But she loves studying the natural world around her home in Pompeii, and lately she's been noticing some odd occurrences in the landscape: small lakes disappearing; a sulfurous smell in the air...
When the two childhood friends reconnect, each with their own longings, they fall passionately in love. But as they plot their escape from the city, a patrician fighter reveals his own plans for them -- to Lucia's father, who imprisons Tag as punishment. Interview with Samantha Shannon

I was so excited when I was ask to interview Samantha Shannon. My co-blogger, Brianna, read and reviewed The Bone Season for the blog, and when I got to read it, man was I excited. I loved it, from start to finish, I fell in love with this amazing world and characters. I felt for Paige and got absorbed by the book.

On May 10th, I'll be meeting Samantha Shannon at her NYC signing at the 92Y. If you're in town, you should check it out for sure! You won't regret going to see her to get her when you're seeing her movie in theaters! You can get a ticket here. Tickets are $22 or $15 if you qualify for their 35 and under program. If you don't already have a ticket you should get one now!

So please check out Samantha's interview below:

1. The Bone Season is your first book you've published and it hasn't been out yet for a year, how have the last 8 months been for you?

It's been a lot of fun and a real rollercoaster. I've met lots of new people, visited lots of new places, and done lots of new things.

2. You explore different types of Clairvoyance in your book, how in depth was your research?

I did quite a lot of research on different views on divination and clairvoyance over the centuries to create the Seven Orders of Clairvoyance system. I looked at nineteenth-century Spiritualism and mediumship, classical impressions of augury and soothsaying, and modern parapsychology.

3. What type of Clairvoyant would you be?

A bibliomancer, I think. There are various ways to practice bibliomancy (e.g. allowing a book to fall open at a random page and using the first words to identify something about the querent), but generally, it refers to connecting to the æther through books. Bibliomancers find true joy in reading and value books above all other objects. They also have one book – their numen – to which they become intimately connected. One of the worst things you could do to a bibliomancer would be to leave them without books for an extended period of time.

4. How does it feel having your own Wikipedia Page and a page for your Book?

Pretty surreal. Always strange to see myself as an encyclopaedia entry. I'm still not used to that side of the experience.

 5. Are there any special features in the paperback of The Bone Season?

I'm not sure about the standard paperback, but there is a Waterstones book club edition (UK only) with an extra map, a Q&A with me, and a list of topics for book club discussion.

 6. Film rights were optioned back before the book went on sale. What was your reaction and is there any news on this front?

It's very exciting. I did an event last week with the team at Imaginarium Studios, who hold the film rights with Twentieth Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment, and we discussed the time frame for getting the film to the screen, which should be about three years. The latest news is that we've secured a double Oscar-nominated screenwriter, whose name should be announced next week.
