Antigoddess (Goddess War #1)

Author: Kendare Blake
Goodreads rating: 3.70
Pages: 333
Format: Final Copy
BINGO Category:  "First Time for Everything" (First Book in a Series)
The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.

Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

FIRST BOOK OF THE NEW YEAR!!! WOO HOO!!! This book marks my first book at my book bingo :) It covers my "First Time For Everything" category for those of you playing at home.

If you are a fan of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, you will love this! I personally love anything with Greek mythology and this was the start to a great series.

In the book, the gods are dying and are struggling and fighting for survival. Their survival comes down to one girl who can see into the future, Cassandra. From here, let the all out War of the Gods begin. This book is filled with twists and turns, drama and romance, and I absolutely loved it! The book doesn't waste any time and launches you right into it. Sometimes I find this works against the book because I spend the first part of the book confused and just trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I never got that feeling with this book, I am happy to state and now there was no boring intro part to get through :)

I am in total love with pretty much all the characters. Athena is a total BAMF, Hermes is the whiny comic relief, Odysseus is just adorable where Athena is concerned, and Cassandra and her crew are amazing, especially how they know about Cassandra's weird gift but accept her completely and unconditionally. Cassandra isn't my favorite heroine, but between her and Athena, I think I will love their dynamics. I also love Cassandra and Aiden's relationship as well! Such an adorable couple. They are beyond adorable!!! And this book is the perfect amount of action and romance (none of that over-bearing lovey dovey stuff, but enough to keep the romancey side of myself satisfied).

Athena, Odysseus and Hermes are a pretty amusing bunch, when I'm not being entertained by Cassie and Aiden's group. There are a bunch of laughs and drama between them that keep you easily entertained and wanting more. You also get to see a good glimpse at the ugly side of gods. I mean... the really ugly side of gods when they are fighting for their survival, something that immortal gods aren't used to doing. I cannot wait to see what happens next!!!
